How to Identify Between Real and Fake Diamond

How to know if the green diamond you just got is real?

Some may suggest checking the flare of the diamond to know if it is original. And some may recommend getting it tested which is indeed quite expensive. Though getting an argyle pink diamond is not an inexpensive move. But getting a test atop purchase may surely bother.

Then what is the best way to identify between real and fake diamonds?

Let us take help from Talore Diamonds to identify the originality of the diamonds:

Testing Originality of a Diamond:

Here are a few tests that you can do at your home to find if the argyle pink or green diamond you just received is original:

Testing with Water:

It is one of the simplest tests to check if a diamond is real. Diamonds weigh more than other stones. That means an argyle pink diamond would sink in the water. And another pink stone which is not a diamond may float. However, a stone weighing more than a diamond may also sink, which may confuse the test.

Test with Breath:

Another easier way to test the originality of the diamond is by breathing on it. It can simply be done by placing your green diamond in the fingers and puffing on it. If the developing fog dissolves immediately, then you have the real diamond. The diamonds are conductors. They effectively and immediately dissolve heat. The breath puffed on the diamond will be hotter than the environment which will result in heat dispersion. However, if the stone does not disperse heat immediately and takes some time, it is not a diamond.

Holding Structure:

The green or argyle pink diamond or any other diamond is quite costly. In the shape of a wearable jewel, the holding structure is of complementary value. Such as in a ring, the mount and the ring are either made of platinum, gold, or any other valuable material. But if the one you got is just in a cheap steel mount then it is a hint that you do not have a diamond.

Thermal Expansion Test:

Diamonds can withstand thermal expansion. That means dropping a heated diamond into cold water may not affect it. Comparatively any other stone will break apart as a reaction. The collection at Talore Diamonds is full of authentic and fully tested diamonds. You may also test it on your own. Take a glass of cold water, carefully heat the diamond for half a minute and drop it into water. It shall not break!

Ahead of these tests, there are several other tests available to identify the diamond. But they require proper tools and expertise. Such as the UV test. The test checks the reflection and glare of the diamond. But not every diamond needs to have a flare under UV.
